Lode: Stud & Metal Detector
What it does.
Finds iron and steel.
A live reading in microtesla, a needle, and a sound and vibration that rise as you get closer. Max hold keeps the peak.
Screws mark the studs.
Slide the phone along the wall. Lode spots the screws and nails that fix the board to each stud, and you mark them.
Every axis, live.
A magnetic field meter with X, Y, Z and the total, graphed over the last few seconds or minutes.
Zero it to the room.
Zero to the background field first, so you see only what changes as you sweep.
Honestly
What it can and can't do.
Lode does
- Detects iron and steel (ferrous metal) near the phone, using its built-in magnetometer.
- Finds the steel screws and nails that hold plasterboard to studs.
- Measures the magnetic field on three axes, in µT.
Lode doesn't
- It cannot detect gold, copper, brass or aluminium. They are not magnetic.
- It cannot see wood, so it finds a stud by its fixings, not the timber itself.
- It only senses iron and steel a few centimetres from the phone.
On the phone.

What Lode reads
Privacy, in plain words.
Lode needs no permissions. It reads the magnetic field sensor, processes the readings on the phone and never stores or sends them. Full privacy policy for Lode.
